FAQ’s
When does MTUA Recruit?
MTUA conducts its annual recruitment process coinciding with the start of the fall semester (August-September). If you are interested in joining at a later time, we would love to have you join as a shadow for one of our teams where you can grow your skills for later competitive semesters.
How can I prepare for Recruitment?
To get ready for recruitment, start by attending an Info Session to learn about the team and the audition process. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you need clarification on any part of the process. Prior experience is NOT Necessary
Do you Only Recruit Freshmen?
Not at all! While many of our new members are freshmen, MTUA recruits students of all years—from first-years to seniors and even transfer students. If you’re passionate, committed, and ready to dive in, we’d love to have you, no matter your class year or level of experience.
What benefits come from Mock Trial
Being part of MTUA is about way more than just competitions. Mock Trial helps you build real-world skills that stick with you long after college—like public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork, quick thinking under pressure, and effective communication. You'll gain confidence in presenting yourself, learn how to craft persuasive arguments, and develop a sharp attention to detail.
Beyond the skills, you'll also join a tight-knit community of driven, passionate, and supportive teammates who become lifelong friends. You’ll travel to tournaments across the country, grow through feedback and mentorship, and be part of something that pushes you to be your best.
Can I join if I am not Pre-Law?
Absolutely! While many of our members are interested in law, you don’t have to be pre-law to join MTUA. Our team is made up of students from all kinds of majors—ranging from business and engineering to theatre and biology. Mock Trial helps you build skills that are valuable in any field.
What is the Time Commitment?
Being part of MTUA is a rewarding experience, but it does require a solid time commitment. During the season (August through April), we hold three practices a week:
Monday: 7pm-10pm
Wednesday: 7pm-10pm
Saturday: 10am-1pm
Outside of practices, members travel to a minimum of two tournaments per semester
